First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Serbia Ivica Dacic met today with the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade of Hungary Peter Szijjarto, who is on his first official visit to Belgrade.

On that occasion, both sides assessed that the relations between Serbia and Hungary reached the highest level so far, and that the two countries were determined to continue their intensive political dialogue and successful cooperation in all areas of common interest.
The Ministers agreed that the efforts in improving the relations between the two countries in the previous period were crowned by completing the process of “historic reconciliation” and the first summit successfully held between the two Governments in Belgrade.
Minister Dacic thanked for the strong support of Hungary to the process of European integration of Serbia and underlined our commitment to further strengthen and concretize their bilateral economic cooperation. In this context, he stressed the importance of the participation of Serbia and Hungary in the energy and infrastructure connectivity projects in the region, and the importance of implementing the agreement on the reconstruction and modernization of Belgrade-Budapest railway from the Chinese Fund for Central and Eastern Europe, and constructing the South Stream gas pipeline.
The Hungarian Foreign Minister reiterated the commitment of Hungary to developing the relations with Serbia, which was perceived as a key country in the region of the Western Balkans that could continue to count on consistent support to the accession process towards full EU membership. He pointed out that, in a regional context, for Hungary it was essential to ensure peace, energy security and greater economic and trade exchange with Serbia and the Western Balkan countries, including, above all, the continuation of the EU enlargement process in the region and the construction of transport and energy infrastructure connections, such as the Belgrade -Budapest railway and the South Stream pipeline.
