Representatives of the Republic of Serbia participated yesterday, 12 October, at the International Donors' Conference on reconstructing Gaza in Cairo, co-organized by Egypt and Norway.

The conference, which was attended by officials from more than 70 countries, was addressed by, among others, UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, US Secretary of State John Kerry, President of Palestine Mahmoud Abbas and Egyptian President Abdul Fattah al-Sisi, all emphasizing the need for rebuilding the destroyed parts of Gaza, where the damage is estimated at four billion dollars.

Our delegation, led by Ambassador Dragan Bisenic, pledged US$ 50,000 in assistance for the reconstruction of Palestine in 2015. In addition, the Republic of Serbia has been developing for many years various projects with the State of Palestine, among which the most significant is scholarships for Palestinian university students studying in Serbia, which is yet another form of assistance much appreciated by the Palestinian side.
