First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Serbia Ivica Dačić attended today the enthronement of His Holiness the Bishop of Central Europe Sergei, at the Himmelstir Monastery near Hildesheim.

The official service, where the believers were addressed by Serbian Orthodox Church Patriarch Irinej, was attended also by the Deputy Speaker of the Parliament of Lower Saxony, Klaus-Peter Bachmann, and dignitaries of the Catholic and Evangelist Churches.

Minister Dačić underlined in his address the importance of this enthronement, since the Serbian Orthodox Church is one of the major mainstays of our vast diaspora in the FR of Germany. On behalf of the Government, he stressed the importance of the enormous contribution of the Serbian Orthodox Church to the preservation of the national and spiritual identity of our citizens in Germany, constituting an important factor in the promotion and the development of bilateral relations between Serbia and Germany.

Klaus-Peter Bachmann pointed out the important role played by the Serbian diaspora and the Serbian Orthodox Church in Lower Saxony.
