First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Serbia Ivica Dačić had talks today with United Nations Resident Coordinator in Serbia Irena Vojackova-Sollorano on further cooperation with the UN, following the Donors' Conference in Brussels.
Minister Dačić underlined the importance of the implementation of the agreed post-flood recovery programmes and projects. He also stressed that other aspects of cooperation with the UN are vital to Serbia's social and economic development, particularly projects whose implementation contributes to the achievement of development goals. The Serbian Foreign Minister expressed the readiness of his country to formulate, together with the UN, the basic principles of the next UN Development Assistance Framework (UNDAF) aimed at addressing long-term development issues important to the people. The interlocutors drew attention to the importance of regional cooperation in reconstruction in the aftermath of the flooding and building a preventive system that would contribute to the establishment of a joint system of protection against natural disasters and crisis response. Vojackova-Sollorano informed Minister Dačić of the steps taken by the UN after the Donors' Conference on rehabilitation, restoration and construction of houses for the resettlement of returnees in Obrenovac. She underlined the UN's readiness to cooperate with the Government of the Republic of Serbia in drawing up a new Sustainable Development Strategy and formulating a new UN Development Assistance Programme. |
