First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Serbia Ivica Dacic met today with Administrator of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Helen Clark.
Clark came to Serbia two days before the Donors' Conference, due on July 16 in Brussels, to see for herself the consequences of floods. Minister Dacic said that the report on the assessment of damage from the floods in Serbia was prepared together with the experts of the UNDP, European Union and the World Bank. Serbian Foreign Minister appealed to all the countries participating in the Donors' Conference to help Serbia and Bosnia and Herzegovina, and expressed hope that several hundred million euros of aid would be raised for the country's recovery. On that occasion, he noted that Serbia and the UN talked about a new framework for cooperation in the next five years. Announcing her participation in the Donors' Conference, Clark said that she would pay a visit to the flooded areas in Serbia the following day in order to be convinced of the situation on the ground. She estimated the Serbia's report on the needs to recover from the floods as good and emphasized that the UN is ready to help Serbia to adapt to climate change more easily and to strengthen its administrative capacities, as it will be important for the EU negotiations.
