First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Serbia Ivica Dacic received today the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Norway, Borge Brende, who informed him that Norway decided to donate another two million euro towards the rehabilitation of the effects of catastrophic floods. Everyone in Norway saw how you were bravely fighting the floods, and we believed that it was our duty to be with you in these moments, said Minister Brende.
Minister Dacic thanked his Norwegian counterpart, saying that this was yet another in a long line of proofs of the traditional Serbian-Norwegian friendship. The Norwegian Foreign Minister emphasized that the friendship between the two peoples dated back to WW II, when the Serbian prisoners of war had been interned in Norway, and the two countries have over decades succeeded in fostering special relations and continuing them into the 21st century. Both Ministers devoted special attention to the discussion of economic relations. They agreed in their assessment that the trade between the two countries could be at a higher level, and discussed possibilities for its improvement. The Foreign Ministers of Serbia and Norway also exchanged views on the European integration of Serbia, the situation in the region and the upcoming Serbian chairmanship of OSCE, for which Minister Brende said that it implied great responsibility, and expressed the satisfaction of Norway that Serbia would take on the chairmanship role next year. He reiterated the strong support of Norway to Serbia's European path. Minister Brende invited Minister Dacic to visit Norway, while the Serbian Foreign Minister reciprocated by inviting the Norwegian Crown Prince Haakon to visit Serbia. |
