Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Serbia Ivan Mrkic attended today the central commemorative state ceremony at "Staro sajmiste", on the occasion of the International Day of Commemoration in memory of the victims of the Holocaust.

The ceremony was headed by Serbian President Tomislav Nikolic who, with military and state honors, laid a wreath at the Monument to World War II genocide victims.

The International Remembrance Day commemorating the victims of the Holocaust was declared by the United Nations on 1 November, remembering 27 January 1945 when the Red Army troops liberated the "Auschwitz – Birkenau" death camp.
