Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Serbia Ivan Mrkic received today Ms. Sabine Leutheusser-Schnarrenberger, candidate of the Federal Republic of Germany for the office of the Secretary General of the Council of Europe.

In presenting her candidacy, Sabine Leutheusser-Schnarrenberger has laid special emphasis on the CoE's role in strengthening the rule of law and the enhancement of the human rights protection system, particularly through the efficient work of the European Court of Human Rights.

Minister Ivan Mrkic pointed out that Serbia attaches great importance to the Council of Europe, and he expressed his expectation that the work of the Organization would be even more efficient in the future.
