Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Serbia Ivan Mrkic, who is a member of the official delegation of the Republic of Serbia at the Intergovernmental Conference between Serbia and the EU, said today in Brussels that the beginning of the EU accession talks marks a great, perhaps even a historic, day for Serbia and the success of its foreign policy.
"It is possible that we will all become fully aware of all the aspects of this event only in the months or, perhaps, years to come", said Minister Mrkic. He emphasized that Serbia had embarked on the road of progress, peace and stability, for which it had been commended by all EU member states. Minister Mrkic expressed his satisfaction that Serbia was entering the process under Greek EU Presidency. He noted that the Intergovernmental Conference was attended by ministers of some EU member states, who were not bound by the procedure to be there, but wished to take the opportunity to welcome Serbia. "I am particularly pleased that foreign ministers of the neighboring countries were there, offering in that most direct and symbolic way, their so much needed support", said Minister Mrkic, underlining that the commencement of the EU accession talks was the success of Serbian foreign policy.
