Under the Republic of Serbia's guidance of the UN General Assembly, most of the efforts were devoted to the preparations for devising a new UN post-2015 global development strategy. The session was dominated by a large number of thematic debates on most essential issues facing the world today. Between March and September 2013, 18 events of this kind were held with the participation of senior officials of the Member States and prominent individuals from the world academic, business, cultural and religious communities. The debates were focused on the role of international criminal justice in reconciliation, global economic management, peaceful settlement of conflicts in Africa, sustainable development and climate change, culture in the context of sustainable development, and entrepreneurship. Furthermore, the first high-level General Assembly meeting on the rule of law and the adoption of the Arms Trade Treaty were the other two particularly important results achieved during the 67th United Nations General Assembly. As President of the 67th UN General Assembly, Serbia contributed to the country's international affirmation, promotion of its relations with the UN and building the capacity for addressing major global issues. |
