Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Serbia Ivan Mrkic received the Ambassador of the Hellenic Republic in Belgrade, Mr. Konstantinos Ikonomidis.

Ambassador Ikonomidis extended congratulations on behalf of the Government of the Hellenic Republic and the Greek people on the decision of the Council of the European Union to open accession negotiations with the Republic of Serbia, announcing the intention of the Hellenic Republic, the next country to assume the rotating EU Presidency, to schedule the Intergovernmental Conference, which will formally mark the beginning of EU accession negotiations with the Republic of Serbia, for 21 January 2014.

The Greek Ambassador also informed Minister Mrkic that the Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of the Hellenic Republic, Mr. Evangelos Venizelos, wished to visit the Republic of Serbia after the Intergovernmental Conference.
