On the occasion of the 12th anniversary of publication of the newspaper Ogledalo, or The Serbian Mirror, a celebration was held in Chicago on 19th October. The gathering was attended by several hundred guests among whom there were various important representatives of the Serbian Diaspora from the economic, scientific and cultural life of Chicago and its surroundings.
At the beginning of the official part of the celebration, the founder and editor-in-chief of the newspaper Ogledalo, Mrs. Slavica Petrovic, welcomed the guests. As a guest of honour, Consul Nebojsa Acimovic also welcomed the guests on behalf of the Consulate General of the Republic of Serbia. The Consul expressed his gratitude for the invitation, and congratulated Mrs. Petrovic and her team on the anniversary of publication. Furthermore, he stressed the importance of the newspaper, commending the contribution the newspaper made in keeping the Serbs living in the USA informed, and its significance in the field of connecting the Diaspora with the mother country. Consul Acimovic reminded the guests about the successful cooperation that the Consulate General had carried out over the years with the newspaper Ogledalo, and he expressed his belief that the cooperation would be continued to everyone's satisfaction in the future as well. At the same time, the Consul encouraged those present to support the publication of the newspaper, one of the few publications printed in the Serbian language, and read, not only in Illinois and its surroundings, but increasingly so throughout the USA. Finally, Mr. Acimovic said that he expected that Mrs. Petrovic and her team's successful work would continue in the future as well. |
