JaberForeign Minister Ivan Mrkic received the Ambassador of the Republic of Lebanon in Belgrade, Toufic Jaber. In a friendly conversation they discussed current issues regarding bilateral cooperation between Serbia and Lebanon, with special emphasis on the participation of representatives of the Serbian Armed Forces (SAF) in UNIFIL peacekeeping mission in Lebanon.

The Lebanese Ambassador stressed that Lebanon highly appreciated the participation of the Serbian Armed Forces in UNIFIL, supported the augmentation of the SAF contingent in UNIFIL and assessed that this mission was important for all-round relations between the two countries because soldiers from the Republic of Serbia in Lebanon were among the most favorite due to their excellent communication with the local population. In addition, they also discussed issues regarding the conditions for the stay and work of Lebanese investors in Serbia.

Foreign Minister Ivan Mrkic assessed that, because of its multicultural and multi-religious set-up, Lebanon was the leading country and "hub" of the Middle East where everything that occurs in the region is reflected. He also expressed hope that the current situation in Syria would not endanger the peace and prosperity of Lebanon.

Both sides expressed belief that the ties between Serbia and Lebanon would strengthen further in the months and years to come.
