Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Serbia Ivan Mrkic met Pany Yathotou, the Parliament Speaker of the Lao People's Democratic Republic, on 14th October 2013.

In the talks they assessed that the traditionally cordial relations continued to develop successfully, and they welcomed the intensification of mutual high-level visits. Common interest was expressed for enhancing economic cooperation and continuation of mutual support at international forums. Foreign Minister Ivan Mrkic extended his gratitude for the Lao principled position regarding Kosovo's unilaterally declared independence (UDI). The Parliament Speaker Pany Yathotou reiterated that the Lao People's Democratic Republic did not recognize Kosovo's UDI, but it did support the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Republic of Serbia, as well as Serbia's endeavours to promote cooperation with the countries of South-East Asia.
