Mrkic - BeyaniMinister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Serbia Ivan Mrkic met with the Special Rapporteur on the Human Rights of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) Chaloka Beyani. Minister Mrkić informed Beyani of the perennial problem of a large number of IDPs from Kosovo and Metohija and the lack of basic conditions for their return to the province. Serbian Foreign Minister also informed Beyani of the efforts made by the Republic of Serbia, despite budgetary constraints, to resolve this problem. Minister Mrkic expressed his expectation that the Special Rapporteur would make recommendations towards reaching durable solutions for IDPs, both in terms of enabling their return to KiM, as well as improving the living conditions of IDPs in the place of their displacement, which requires significant funding and the international community involvement. Beyani underlined the importance of having an insight into the situation on the ground and agreed that efforts should be made towards seeking durable solutions. He said that he supported Serbia in that respect and that he would make relevant recommendations to the international forces in KiM and that he would also direct his efforts towards potential donors. Mrkic and Beyani agreed to continue their cooperation on this issue.
