"Serbia will, no doubt, be a new member of the European family and France will provide it all the assistance needed to that effect", said France's Minister Delegate for European Affairs Thierry Repentin during his talks with Serbian Foreign Minister Ivan Mrkic.
Repentin commended Serbia's foreign policy orientation, underlining that its numerous successful moves have been recognized in Europe, but also in the world at large. The two Ministers agreed that, in the coming period, France and Serbia should work together on the restoration and full revitalization of their traditional friendship that had been forged, as they put it, in the challenges of history. They also agreed on how the two countries should commemorate together the centenary of the First World War, in 2014. Both Repentin and Mrkic noted that, lately, France and Serbia have had frequent meetings on the highest and high levels. Repentin conveyed the invitation extended by French President François Hollande to Serbian President Tomislav Nikolic to visit Paris on 14 July 2014. The French Minister Delegate for European Affairs emphasized that his country would continue to encourage the largest possible number of French investors to come to Serbia which was, he said, the cornerstone of stability and prosperity in the Balkans. Repentin particularly had many words of praise about Serbia's participation in the peace missions in Mali and the Lebanon. |
