The NGO "Unity International Foundation" bestowment ceremony was held yesterday, 29 July, in New Delhi. Ambassador Mirilović was bestowed "Outstanding Ambassador of the Year" for exceptional contribution to the promotion of the Serbian-Indian relations.
The award was presented by former Indian Prime Minister Deve Gowda. Besides the organizers of the event – the President of the Foundation (Dr. Bhishma Narain Singh, former minister in the administration of Shrimati Indira Gandhi and the Governor in several Indian states) and the Secretary General of the Foundation R.N. Anila, the ceremony was attended by representatives of Indian political life, business community, NGOs and the media, and members of the diplomatic corps, including several ambassadors. The Ambassador of Bhutan, as the guest of honor, gave a speech about the political system in Bhutan, the recent elections, priorities and challenges facing the new Bhutan Government. In addition to Ambassador Mirilović, president of the Canara Bank Ltd. R.K. Dubey received recognition for merit in the private sector. It is important to note that this Foundation has been in existence for 50 years and that prominent figures participate in its events, including senior government officials (at the previous event in June this year, Foreign Minister S. Khurshid took part). |
