Slovenia advocates that Serbia be granted as soon as possible a date for starting its accession negotiations with the European Union, stated today Foreign Ministers of Serbia and Slovenia, Ivan Mrkic and Karl Erjavec.
"Slovenia fully supports that Serbia be given a date for opening EU accession talks, which will be discussed at the meeting of Ministers of Foreign Affairs of EU Member States" in Luxemburg, said Erjavec at a joint press conference with Minister Mrkic. Mrkic stated that Slovenia extended Serbia persistent and sustained support at all the meetings where EU enlargements were discussed. Speaking of bilateral relations, the two Foreign Ministers assessed that these relations were excellent, particularly in the political and economic areas, to which Mrkic added that they were now probably at the highest level ever since they were established. Erjavec stated that there were no major issues outstanding in the relations between the two countries, and that Slovenia considered Serbia as its strategic economic partner. Mrkic and Erjavec said that they also discussed the issue of succession and expressed their conviction that this issue would be settled amicably, with mutual cooperation.
