Serbian language presented at the Language Festival in Thessaloniki |

The Municipality of Thessaloniki organized a Language Festival "Thessaloniki, a Multilingual City", held from 7-9 June 2013 in the area in front of the Municipality and its lobby, where Serbian language was presented.
The Festival was addressed by Mayor J. Butaris and Deputy Mayor for Education A. Karoumpis, among others. In addition to Serbia, the countries that presented their languages at the Festival included Greece, Russia, Cyprus, France, Germany, Bulgaria, Albania, Slovakia, Romania, Finland and Italy, which had their promotion stands and participated in a number of related events. Festival visitors had the opportunity to familiarize themselves with the scripts, dialects and history of literacy of other nations and, by acquainting themselves with a variety and richness of cultures, to become more knowledgeable of each other. The Consulate General of the Republic of Serbia in Thessaloniki hosted, with the assistance of the Cultural Centre "Vuk Karadzic" from Loznica, the exhibition "Serbian script and language through history" and the video presentation on Vuk Stefanovic Karadzic and his native village of Trsic. In coordination with the Consulate, Serbian language was further presented by "Sveti Sava" Serbian supplementary school which prepared a creative programme of music and reciting. A group of Serbian citizens - members of the diaspora prepared a variety of presentations including music; art and language workshops; reciting and telling Serbian poems and fairy tales, and arranging the Serbian stand. Posters and advertising material for the Serbian Stand were provided courtesy of Cultural Centre "Vuk Karadzic" and the Serbian Tourism Organization. On all three days, the festival was visited by a large number of people. |
