German Foreign Minister Guido Westerwelle met with Serbian Foreign Minister Ivan Mrkic at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. On his arrival in Belgrade Westerwelle said that the key precondition for Serbia's progress towards the EU was to begin the implementation of the Brussels agreement, step by step, with tangible progress.
"A historic agreement was reached on 19 April and now it is very much necessary to agree on the implementation plan and to begin its implementation, step by step, not all at once, but to see a tangible progress in all this. We are confident that it is the most important precondition for Serbia's path towards Europe", said the German Foreign Minister. At their summit on 27 and 28 June, the EU Heads of States or Governments should make a decision on whether Serbia will be given a date for the opening of accession negotiations with the EU. The Bundestag will take its position the day before, on 27 June. |
