Celebration of 70th anniversary of the VOA Serbian language service

At the invitation of the organizers, Ambassador Petrovic attended the celebration of 70th anniversary of the Voice of America service in the Serbian language. Apart from him, the meeting was attended by the Deputy Assistant Secretary of State F. Riker, Ambassador of Montenegro to the United States S. Darmanović, former US Ambassador in Belgrade M. Polt, Director of Voice of America D. Ensor, Director of the International Broadcasting Board R. Lobo, American diplomats, analysts and representatives of Congress dealing with the Balkans.

In the addresses of the representatives of the Voice of America and Ambassador Riker, emphasis was placed on the importance and role of the Serbian service in an truthful and accurate information of the public in the former SFR Yugoslavia, especially during the Balkan wars in the 1990s. Attention was also drawn to the role played by the Voice of America in the improvement of ties between the United States and other countries, particularly in terms of information exchange and better mutual knowledge and understanding.

In his address, Ambassador Petrovic congratulated on a significant anniversary, stressing the professional reporting by the Serbian service, and their commitment to strengthening of democracy and promotion of freedom of the media.
