Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Serbia Ivan Mrkic received today a Roma MP and Leader of the Roma Political Party, Mr. Srdjan Sain.

MP Sain informed the Minister about the initiative to hold an inter-parliamentary meeting of Roma MPs from the regional and national Parliaments of European countries in April or May of this year, as well as about an initiative to establish a European Academy for Young Roma Leaders, to be based in Belgrade, which could begin its activity in 2014, with the support of the European Union.

Minister Mrkic said that the two initiatives gave a new quality to the improvement of the position of Roma in Europe, and expressed the willingness of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to extend its assistance in the promotion and implementation of these initiatives. He emphasized that with regard to an improved position of the Roma minority, the Republic of Serbia was very active regionally and internationally.
