The Government of the Republic of Serbia, at the proposal of the Minister of Foreign Affairs, adopted a decision on the establishment of the Embassy of the Republic of Serbia to the United Arab Emirates, at its meeting held on 4 February 2013.

The Republic of Serbia and the United Arab Emirates established diplomatic relations on 21 March 2007.

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) is a federation of seven emirates, formed in 1971, through the union of Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Sharjah, Ras Al Khaimah, Fujairah, Ajman and Umm Al Quwain. It is headed by President who is at the same time the ruler of Abu Dhabi.

The decision to establish the Embassy of the Republic of Serbia to the United Arab Emirates is the result of a shared vision of Belgrade and Abu Dhabi on the need to strengthen mutual ties, political and primarily economic cooperation.

The Republic of Serbia and the United Arab Emirates have recognized the potentials of the development of economic relations, and important investment projects have been planned, especially in the area of agriculture and food industries, as well as military and economic cooperation.

So far, the diplomatic relations between Belgrade and Abu Dhabi have been maintained on a non-resident basis, through the Embassy of the Republic of Serbia in Cairo or the UAE Embassy in Rome.
