The current bilateral relations are developed and characterized by multi-faceted cooperation and dynamic political dialogue at all levels.

Political relations:

Visits:

  • The fourth joint session of the two Governments was held in Brdo Castle near Kranj on 1 February 2018. Economic cooperation: In 2017, the total trade in goods between R. Serbia and R. Slovenia amounted to EUR 1.027 billion. Exports to Slovenia amounted to EUR 496.8 million, and imports from Slovenia to EUR 530.4 million.
  • Slovenian Prime Minister M. Cerar paid an official visit to Belgrade, on 23-24 October 2016, when the third joint session of the two Governments was held. On that occasion, three agreements were signed: on cooperation in the areas of culture, intellectual property rights and the continuation of transport cooperation in the framework of the EU Strategy for the Danube Region.
  • At the same time, Serbian-Slovenian Business Forum was held.
  • During 2015, Slovenia was visited by President of the Republic of Serbia T. Nikolic, on 8-9 October, Speaker of NA of RS M. Gojkovic, on 11 November and former Defence Minister B. Gasic, on 1-2 December.
  • FDPM and MFA Ivica Dacic took part in the Bled Strategic Forum, an international gathering taking place in Slovenia for the ninth time, from 1 to 2 September 2014. FDPM and MFA Ivica Dacic delivered his address in a panel discussion "The Future of the Western Balkans: How to Make Regional Cooperation Work".
  • President of the Republic of Slovenia Borut Pahor was on his first official visit to Serbia from 29 to 30 May 2014. On the second day of his official visit, President Pahor met FDPM and MFA Ivica Dacic.
  • Prime Minister Alenka Bratusek was on a working visit to Serbia, within the tour of the flood-affected areas, from 17 to 18 June 2014. On the occasion, she met President of the Republic of Serbia Tomislav Nikolic, Prime Minister Aleksandar Vucic, and FDPM and MFA Ivica Dacic.
  • Slovenian Minister of Foreign Affairs K. Erjavec visited Belgrade on 19 June 2013.
  • The First Joint Session between the two Governments was held from 1 to 2 October 2013 in Belgrade, along with Slovenian Prime Minister A. Bratušek's visit to Belgrade.
  • Slovenian President B. Pahor was on an unofficial visit to Serbia, on 22 May 2013.
  • President of the National Assembly of Slovenia J. Veber visited Belgrade, from 2 to 3 July 2013.
  • Serbian Prime Minister I. Dacic visited Slovenia, from 14 to 15 November 2012.
  • Serbian Minister of Foreign Affairs I. Mrkic visited Slovenia on 26 October 2012.


Economic relations:

Slovenia is one of the most important trading and economic partners and investors for Serbia, with investments totalling over one billion euro. There are nearly 1,400 companies with a share of Slovenian capital operating in Serbia and employing more than 25,000 workers.

In 2015, the realized exchange amounted to EUR 869.2 million. In the period up to September 2016, the exchange reached EUR 710.9 million, of which exports amounted to EUR 323.6 million and imports to EUR 387.3 million.

The Joint Committee for Economic Cooperation with Slovenia meets regularly – its seventh session will be held in Slovenia, on 25-26 January 2017.
