Political relations:

Bilateral relations are at a high level. The strategic partnership between the Republic of Serbia and the Republic of Italy was established on 13 November 2009, in Rome, during the First Summit of the two Governments. The Second and Third Summits were held on 8 March 2012, in Belgrade, and on 15 October 2013, in Ancona. The forthcoming Fourth Summit of the two Governments is to be held.

Visits (2015-2017):

  • Prime Minister of the Autonomous Province of Vojvodina, Igor Mirovic, visited Lombardy on December 1, 2017, when he met with the President of the Region of Lombardy, Roberto Maroni.
  • Minister of Defense of the Republic of Serbia Aleksandar Vulin paid an official visit to Italy, from October 22 to 24, 2017, when he met with Italian Minister of Defense Roberta Pinotti.
  • Minister of Justice of the Republic of Serbia Nela Kuburovic visited Rome from October 10 to 12, 2017, when she met with Justice Minister Andrea Orlando.
  • President of the Republic of Serbia Aleksandar Vucic made an official visit to the Italian Republic on 25 July 2017. On that occasion he met with Italian President Sergio Mattarella and Prime Minister Paolo Gentiloni.
  • Italian Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation A. Alfano made an official visit to Serbia on 13-14 March 2017
  • Prime Minister of R. Serbia A. Vucic was paid a working visit to the Italian Veneto region on 16 December 2016, at the invitation from the Region L. Zaja
  • Italian Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation P. Gentiloni participated at the 22nd OSCE Ministerial Council in Belgrade, on 3-4 December 2015
  • President of the Senate of R. Italy P. Grasso visited R. Serbia at the invitation of the Speaker of the National Assembly M. Gojkovic, on 12-14 November 2015
  • Speaker of the National Assembly M. Gojkovic visited Rome on 17 and 18 September 2015 at the invitation of the Speaker of the Chamber of Deputies L. Boldrini
  • President of R. Serbia T. Nikolic met with President of R. Italy S. Mattarella during his official visit to the Holy See on 11 September 2015
  • Italian Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation P. Gentiloni was on an official visit to R. Serbia on 31 March 2015
  • First Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister I. Dacic was on an official visit to Rome on 23 January 2015. On the same date, the first Trilateral Meeting of Ministers of Foreign Affairs of Italy, Serbia and Albania was held at the initiative of the Republic of Italy.

Economic relations:

The economic cooperation with Italy is very developed. Italy is the first foreign trade partner of Serbia and one of its leading investment partners. The total goods exchange in the first eleven months of 2017 was EUR 3.6 billion. In the first eleven months Serbian exports to Italy amounted to EUR 1,85 billion, 2,9 percent more than in the same period in 2016, while imports were EUR 1,78 billion, 7,7 percent more than in the same period last year.
