Official name: ISLAMIC REPUBLIC OF IRAN
Governmental system: Iran is a unique country according to its governmental system, i.e. it is a theocratic republic. The Supreme (religious) Leader is Ali Hoseini-Khamenei.
Head of State: Hassan Rouhani
Prime Minister: The amendments to the Constitution of 1989 abolished the office of Prime Minister and thus the executive power lies with the Supreme Leader and the President.
Minister of Foreign Affairs: Mohammad Javad Zarif
Date of establishing diplomatic relations: 1945.


Political relations:

Political dialogue has been intensified since 2015, with the exchange of visits of high and highest level, owing mainly to the removal of sanction towards Iran and improvement of its international position. The First Vice Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Serbia I. Dacic, was visited Iran from 3 to 5 August 2015, the Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia M. Gojkovic from 22 to 25 November 2015, and former President of the Republic of Serbia T. Nikolic from 16 to 17 April 2016. Minister of Foreign Affairs of Iran M. Javad Zarif was on the official visit to Serbia from 26 to 27 February 2018. Aside from the visits of the ministers from different sectors, a mayor of Belgrade visited Iran in 2016.

New Serbian Ambassador to Iran is H.E. Mr Dragan Todorovic, since July 2017, and Ambassador of Iran to Serbia is H.E. Mr. Hossein Mola Abdulahi, since 2016.

Despite of various external and internal pressures, Iran has not recognized the unilateral declaration of independence by so-called Kosovo.

Economic relations:

From January to August 2013, Serbian exports amounted to € 7 million, and imports to € 1.55 million.
