Serbia and France have maintained diplomatic relations since 1839. Modern diplomatic relations were established in 1879.

Political relations:
In April 2011, Serbia and France signed the Agreement on Strategic Partnership in Paris with a view to securing France’s support for Serbia in the process of its full membership of the European Union, as well as to developing cooperation in the fields of defence, economy, culture, science and education.
Visits
- President of the Republic of Serbia Aleksandar Vučić paid a visit to France on 17 July 2018.
- Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs Jean-Yves Le Drian paid a visit to Serbia on 12 April 2018.
- First Deputy PM and Minister of Foreign Affairs I. Dacic paid a visit to France on 20 February 2018.
- Former Prime Minister A. Vucic paid an official visit to France from 14 to 16 September 2016.
- Minister of State for European Affairs Harlem Désir visited the Republic of Serbia from 9 to 10 November 2015 (he met with First Deputy PM and Minister of Foreign Affairs Ivica Dacic and Former PM Aleksandar Vucic)
- First Deputy PM and Minister of Foreign Affairs I. Dacic paid a working visit to Paris on 18 December 2014 and on that occasion met with the then Minister of Foreign Affairs Laurent Fabius.
- Minister J. Joksimovic paid a working visit to Paris from 25 to 17 November 2014. th the then Minister of Foreign Affairs Laurent Fabius.
- French Prime Minister Manuel Valls was on an official visit to Serbia on 6 and 7 November 2014 (he met with Former PM A. Vucic and Former President of R. Serbia Tomislav Nikolic).
- Chairperson of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the French National Assembly Élisabeth Guigou visited the Republic of Serbia on 31 October and 1 November 2014 (she met with Former PM A. Vucic and Minister of Foreign Affairs I. Dacic).
- Former PM A. Vucic paid an official visit to Paris on 3 July 2014 and on that occasion met with PM Valls and other high-level officials of the Republic of France
- Minister of State for European Affairs in the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs H. Désir paid a working visit to the Republic of Serbia on 27 June 2014 (he met with Former PM A. Vucic and Minister J. Joksimovic).
- Former President of the Republic of Serbia T. Nikolic visited Paris on 22 May 2014 and on that occasion met with the French President François Hollande.
- Member of Parliament Jean-Claude Mignon visited Serbia on 25 February 2014 (he met with the then Minister of Foreign Affairs I. Mrkic).
- The then Minister of Foreign and European Affairs Thierry Repentin visited Serbia in September 2013 (he met with the then Minister of Foreign Affairs I. Mrkic).
- The then Prime Minister I. Dacic visited France on 4 April 2013.
- Former President of R. Serbia Boris Tadic visited France in May 2009 and April 2011.
- Former Foreign Minister V. Jeremic visited Paris in October 2009 and March 2011.

Economic relations Trade in goods in the first half of 2018 amounted to approximately EUR 535 million.

Overall trade in goods in 2015 amounted to approximately EUR 850 million, out of which exports amounted to EUR 368.5 million, and imports to EUR 480.5 million.
Overall trade in goods in 2014 amounted to about EUR 745 million, out of which exports amounted to EUR 313.5 million, and imports to EUR 431.6 million. Total foreign trade in 2013 amounted to EUR 718 million (exports amounted to EUR 265.5 million, and imports to 453.7 million). In 2012, total foreign trade reached EUR 623 million (exports amounted to EUR 221.8 million, and imports to 401.2 million).
