Cairo: WWI Centenary Commemoration
+ larger fontnormal font- Smaller font
The Embassy of the Republic of Serbia and the Embassy of Belgium in Cairo jointly marked the centenary of the outbreak of the First World War by hosting performances given by soprano Ms. Katarina Jovanovic and pianist Ms. Milena Petrovic, held at the Residence of the Belgian Ambassador on 19 October 2014.

The symbolism underlying the joint commemorative ceremony is the fact that Serbia and Belgium are the two countries that first came under attack in the Western and Southern Fronts.

Serbian artists have opted for two Salonika-period songs from their extensive repertoire: The French Boat is Sailing (Kreće se lađa francuska) and There, Far Away (Tamo daleko), which were warmly received by the audience.
