logo ministarstvaRegarding ever more frequent media interpretations of the return of "economic diplomats", the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Serbia wishes to inform that this is related to the return of economic diplomacy into the framework of this Ministry, thus rectifying the effects of the reform under which economic diplomacy was under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Economy, and subsequently the Ministry of Trade, Tourism and Telecommunications.

Namely, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs submitted a request for amendment of Articles 5 and 35 of the Law on Foreign Affairs, which would provide a legal framework for the return of economic diplomacy to this institution. This means that the Ministry will not hire new employees, but rely on the existing network of diplomatic and consular missions and its own employees. The Ministry will select staff in cooperation with the Serbian Chamber of Commerce.

In order to keep abreast of the implementation of the set goals, all heads of diplomatic and consular missions will be obliged to submit monthly reports on the progress made in the attraction of foreign investments, and growth of economic exchange between their respective receiving country and the Republic of Serbia.
